Re: Yellowtail Topwater Casting - 11kg Beauty!

Good catch Nigel, Glad to see someone's getting some action right now. Unfortunately I don't have any Kyushu Trips planned this year, but if my luck changes I'll make my way over there for tuna season. One or two buddies in Shonan have expressed interest in going, so I may see about putting together...

Re: Leader Length For Yellowtail and Tuna Casting

Nigel's set up of having the knot situated just above where he's going to grip the line with his finger when casting is correct however, use of the PR knot is a bit risky. I'd suggest going with the FG for casting. The only time you should use a fifteen foot leader is when you are jigging. Nice new ...

Ensei idea

Hi guys, I'm looking at putting together a two day lure trip to Miyagi in April for rockfish, either noriai or charter. If we can get a group of four guys together leaving from the Tokyo area we can rent a van and split, the costs of gas, road tolls etc. Tacklewise we can catch them on 6-7 foot MH b...

Re: Japanese fish & technique names in English?

If you're going to be fishing in Hokkaido you'll be able to get into some good rockfish, trout, and salmon fishing. If you were further south we could help you a bit more, but like Nigel said it's really confusing at first if you have no Japanese ability. You can pick up a lot of basics from observa...

Re: Oilfish w/ Gary, Del, Chuck, and Katsumi

Good fun as always. I was so tired the whole trip I barely fished. Next time I'll give em more hell.

Phil forgot to mention the big, possibly Escolar, he hooked but lost at the boat just before netting. Stuff happens.

Lets give it another whirl again soon guys.

Re: OSAKA & TOKYO TRADE SHOWS + MEET UP PARTY

SETSUO! Ohisashiburi!

It's been too long since we last hung out. Hope to see you at the show. We're going Oilfishing with Kadoya san tomorrow.

Nigel, how long are you going to be in town? Shall I give you your reel then, or do you plan on using it before the show?

Re: Lunker Seabass In Futsu

Come to think of it, Kawawa Senchou was recommending light dorado tackle and reels spooled with 16lb for the winter bite. I wonder if heavier gear would make it any easier to pull those monsters out of the shallows.

I almost wish I wasn't going away next week. Otherwise I'd be out there.

Re: Iki topwater and jig game

I got one hiramasa on a D3 Semilong 145g, but the rest were on top. After this trip, I'm much more interested in casting than jigging. Already thinking about what I can get into for next year. There's a slim chance I might be able to go to Kuala Rompin in Malaysia for Sailfish on topwaters next Sept...

Iki topwater and jig game

Made it out for another weekend in Kyushu with my crew. My personal catch wasn't that impressive. Lots of rat sized yellowtail and a couple nice spanish mackeral. My club members managed to pull up some pretty big hiramasa which made for good memories. The highlight was a pair of groupers pulled up ...

Re: Lunker Seabass In Futsu

NICE SEABASS MAN! That one Kikuta san got is bursting in the belly. I'm super jealous. I wish I couldve gotton out for one last run this year. Guess I'll have to wait till January, but I don't know if I wanna ride all the way down to the Kaihos from Edo. Might need to run with your guy. The run to t...

Re: Kyu Edo and Ara River mouth antics

If you are thinking about a shore rod you wanna get something thats longer than a boat rod. A good starter rod length is 8'6" with a 1oz cast weight. If you want something shorter to cast near structure or around bridges, etc, where distance doesnt matter it's cool, but I'd say dont go below 7'...

Boat Links Page

I've started a boat links page on my site. If anyone is looking for some info on where they can get on a boat it might help. Check it out if you get a chance.

Re: Day Game for a Change

just checked the homepage. it says the SLDS have a 20-70cm range. I think on a super slow retreive, you could average 30-40 with that current coming out of the Kyu-Edo.

Looks pretty shallow to me. I got both of mine last time on a duo/ima 12cm. Might be worth a look-see
