Tying an Eyeless Hook

Postby Fisherkingnigel » Thu Mar 18, 2010 11:34 am

Eyeless hooks are very common in Japan for methods like ISO, boat jigging and bait fishing. Surprisingly tying an eyeless is in my opinion better and more functional than the eyed types because it lies in the bait more naturally. They can virtually be impossible to see once the hook is embedded into a shrimp, a bait ball, crabs or mussels. If you are a fishermen who wants to try something different we're sure you might want some of these fine little hooks.

Also I found a really good video on youtube that shows a coups of different versions of the knot:

Hi Guys,
First time I fished for swordfish the Captain tied all the hooks, even eyed hooks himself with the Snell Knot. This guy was an ex-commercial sword boat Captain who had hands like molegrips, the hooks were 8 and10/0s and the line was 250lb mono.
It would take a video to explain the exact method of tying the Snell Knot but it is sure to be somewhere on the 'net.
I now use this knot for all my hooks below freshwater size 10, and IMO it is the very best for attaching a jig hook to the assist line.
In Europe there are numberous mini machines available for tying non-eyed hooks (called spade end hooks in Euro speak) to low diameter mono for freshwater fishing..........business opportunity for someone in Japan maybe.
