Vertical Jigging Near Yamaguchi Perfecture

Postby jigginut » Sat Jun 05, 2010 2:27 am

I am going to be staying in Sanyoonada for ~8 weeks starting August 15. I love vertical jigging and would like to get some information on local charters near Sanyoonada. From reading the posts on this site it seems to me that Fukuoka seems to be a good fishing city. I am interested in catching Tuna (yellowfin/bluefin), Amberjack, and any other "big game species". I will be bringing my own gear (Shimano Torium 30 hs reel/7' offshore angler jigging rod, small collection of vertical jigs) and I know what I am doing for the most part, just need someone to take me where the fish are biting. Looking to spend 30,000 jpy or less for full day.

Thanks in advance

Hey there Jigginut! :wel: to Yamaguchi!

ok, first off, Sanyo-Onoda is in the western end of Yamaguchi, near Ube and the airport. I don't know about jigging charters out of Ube, but I can check. I do know there are "fishing" charters there, but that's gonna bait fishing for Tai, Madai, Mebaru, etc.

Secondly, Sanyo-Onoda is a short train ride to Asa station. From there, you can hop on the Shinkansen and be in Fukuoka in about 45 min. Then, it's a 5 min taxi ride to Capt. Ishiba's jigging boat. He's one of the best.
Nigel lives in Fukuoka. He can tell you more about the charter boats there.

As for Yamaguchi, there are a couple of jigging boats up in the eastern end. They go out into the Seto Inland Sea for yellowtail (amberjacks).
Now, if you want to give the tuna a run, we'll have to drive up to the north shore, the Japan Sea. You're only an hour, maybe 90 minutes from Nagato and Hagi. I'll do some checking, see what's available. There won't be any problem getting guys to fill up the boat!

welcome to Fishing Japan!
