Postby ploysch » Sat Jun 19, 2010 9:02 am

Like many others i am from another country and am not sure on the laws and culture. One question i have is, can i legally fish in january and how good is fishing during then? Would anyone also consider showing me a few spots when/if i arrive in january? I unfortunately cannot speak/read japanese and dont want to be accidentally breaking laws  Any help would be greatly appreciated :D

thanks in advance,

Hey Pat, :wel: to Fishing Japan! It's good to have another Pat on the board!

When you get here, where are you going to stay? The Tokyo area has many FJ members. They can help out with boat charters or good places to shore fish.

January is a good time to fish here. Obviously, proper weather clothes are in order. There's a whole variety of fish available. It depends where you are and if you are inshore/offshore.

So...what kind of fishing do you do in NY?

cheers, Pat in Kaminoseki

Hi Pat,
The good thing about Japan is there are very few fishing regulations. The bad thing about Japan is there are very few fishing regulations. Because fishing here is pretty much a free for all, with the exception of most inland fisheries, most of the accesible areas are highly pressured by both commercial and recreational fishing. That said, there are still opportunities to get into fish if you target the right species in the right locations. It depends on what type of fishing you are interested in, your gear and how far you want to travel and how much you want to spend.
Give us idea of what you are interested in and then we can give you some specifics.
Good luck!
Cheers, maineman
